Hey, I’m Sophie!

I’m 31 years old and I'm based in Dubai & the UK. I'm also the founder and writer of RUNAWAYSOPH.

My main aim for this website is to share my travel experiences and inspire people to see more of what the world has to offer.

My love of adventure and travel started at age 11 when I flew as an unaccompanied minor with British Airways to Berlin. I have a Great Auntie in Berlin which makes me a quarter German. Growing up, my older sister and I would alternate throughout the year to visit her. For most people flying by themselves can be a scary and daunting experience - so flying at the of age 11, by myself, set me up for life.

It wasn't until my last year of performing arts college, aged 20 when I realised how passionate I was about seeing the world. Over the years I have even developed the nickname ‘tomtom’ by my family and friends, as I always take on the tour guide role when we're in a new city or country.

I've also been told countless times that I take pictures of EVERYTHING... which is true but also very handy for this website, as I now have a huge portfolio of photos ready to be unleashed. From aeroplane tickets to unforgettable meals, city skylines to selfies with new friends. You name it, I have them all!

As well as my love for travel, I absolutely love performing and musical theatre. I studied MT for 2 years at Northampton College and for 3 years at Masters Performing Arts in Essex. Since graduating in 2014, I have been working as a lifeguard and swimming coach.

Initially, this was to fund my big move to London to pursue my acting career... but every time, just before I decide to move, I end up booking an epic trip or end up working in another country. I have no regrets though as I’ve now travelled to 4 continents, over 45 countries and 10 US states. I’ve also worked in the USA for a summer, climbed the tallest mountain in Africa, and worked on a cruise ship in Asia.

Working in Dubai for the last three years has been incredible and I don’t plan on leaving anytime soon. It’s the world’s central hub for travel, so it’s easy for me to get back to the UK and to explore new destinations.

It's inevitable that I will move to London in the future, but for now, I love nothing more than stepping off a plane in a new country...
