DISCOVER AFRICA

When you think of Africa, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? Kenyan safari? South Africa? The continent has way more to offer than most people know. Looking back, I’ve actually had some of the best experiences in Africa. Possibly some of the most daunting countries to travel to, however, I’ve had nothing but incredible trips here.

A continent full of different cultures, landscapes, history, and natural beauty. I’ve been lucky enough to climb the roof of Africa - the famous Mount Kilimanjaro, scuba dive in the untouched waters of the Red Sea, and climb inside the 4000-year-old Giza Pyramids. I have so many places left on my African bucket list - I cannot wait to explore some more!

BEST TIME TO TRAVEL

Africa is a huge continent and each country has its best months to visit. Choosing when to travel depends on your interest and what you’re hoping to see. The dry seasons in each region differ from one another: North Africa (June - September), East Africa (July - September), Horn of Africa (November - January), Southern Africa (April - October), and West Africa (November - April).

I climbed Kilimanjaro in September 2016 and we didn’t have a drop of rain which was incredible, however, we reached temperatures of -15 degrees at the summit. On the other hand, I travelled to Egypt in August 2019 and we had temperatures in the low 40s. A rainy day would have been great!

TOP TIPS

Some countries in Africa use the English language however many do not. Especially in North Africa, Arabic is predominantly used. If you’re travelling with someone that speaks the native language or you have a tour guide that speaks English, it will massively help you to navigate around the rural places.

Malaria and Yellow Fever are still a threat in some countries. Please check with your doctor before travelling to certain regions to prevent contamination and deportation. Keep your certificates with you at all times. It’s better to be safe than sorry!
