I’m not sure I can truly capture Qatar in just a few sentences. The country blew me away, far exceeding all my expectations. We visited Doha in 2022 for the FIFA World Cup, which itself was an unforgettable experience. The tournament was incredibly organised, keeping fans entertained and, most importantly, safe.
In my eyes, Doha is one of the best cities I’ve had the pleasure of visiting. It’s so clean, welcoming, and brimming with cultural attractions and places to relax – a rarity in major cities. Compared to other bustling capitals like London, Dubai, or New York, Doha had a laid-back vibe that never felt overwhelming. Even with over 3 million people in town for the World Cup, we never once felt overstimulated or stressed.
For the first time ever in a Middle Eastern city, we walked everywhere – aside from a few metro rides to the stadiums. This was just one of the many things that made the experience so refreshing. The National Museum of Qatar was an architectural marvel, easily one of the most striking museums I’ve ever seen. Souq Waqif, alive with shops, restaurants, and football fans chanting before matches, was a real highlight of our trip. And the Corniche? It offers the best views of the city’s skyline – a perfect place to unwind in the evenings.
With more attractions and places opening up, Doha is just getting started. I’ve said it before: if I weren’t already living in Dubai, I’d move to Qatar in a heartbeat. Maybe one day!
