Crete is the largest of the Greek Islands, located right in the centre of the Mediterranean Sea. The capital city is Heraklion, however, the Chania area is where you’ll find the luxury hotels, sandy beaches and the picturesque Old Town. Crete also offers ancient ruins, incredible cuisine and hidden gems to be found.
Most tourists choose Crete for the sun, sea and beaches, which is exactly why my sisters and I chose the island for our summer holiday, back in 2015.
We stayed at the Aquila Rithymna Beach hotel which is situated in between Chania and Heraklion. We stayed at the resort most days however we ventured out to the nearby towns on a couple of occasions, which were exquisite - gave us everything we needed from a coastal Greek town. In my opinion the BEST cuisine, traditional buildings, cobbled streets and that real feeling of being on holiday.
